Heart of Illinois Community Foundation
Heart of Illinois Community Foundation
Missy is deeply committed to the mission of community foundations and the lasting impact they create for donors and the communities they serve. She joined the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation, formerly The Community Foundation of Macon County, in 2004 and has played a key role in the organization’s growth and evolution. Under her leadership, the HICF achieved its first National Standards accreditation in early 2006, positioning the foundation as one of the earliest adopters of this essential mark of excellence.
During Missy’s tenure, the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation has grown to more than $63 million in assets and, more importantly, has distributed over $65 million in grants throughout its 25-year history. On behalf of the HICF, Missy has managed external community grants for multiple state and federal programs, including a U.S. Department of Education grant, a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant, and multiple grants from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Missy has presented at the Council on Foundations national conference and the Alliance of Illinois Community Foundation convenings.
In addition to donor relations, Missy oversees human resources, compliance, operations, and investment reporting. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, earned her SHRM-SCP credential in 2019, and completed the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®) designation through The American College of Financial Services in 2021. Prior to joining the HICF, Missy worked in investor relations for a privately held company, experience that translated naturally into donor relations and philanthropic stewardship. She is especially passionate about helping individuals and families share their charitable impact and build meaningful legacies.
Missy’s late husband, Ray Batman, was deeply devoted to strengthening the Central Illinois community, and his legacy continues to inspire her work. She currently serves as a trustee on the boards of the Northeast Community Fund, a regional food pantry; Woodford Homes, a supportive housing provider for individuals with physical and mental disabilities; and the Ketenbrink Animal Foundation. Missy enjoys traveling and spending time with her children and six wonderful grandchildren.
